Research to inform food and nutrition security policies: presentation of interim results

A Workshop to present 14 interim reports and 2 inception reports of research on food and nutrition security policies in Bangladesh will be held on 7 and 8 May at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel, Dhaka as part of continuing activities by the National Food Policy Capacity Strengthening Programme (NFPCSP) to support evidenced-based policy decision-making in the Government of Bangladesh.
 
Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Food and Disaster Management (MoFDM) will be the Chief Guest of the inaugural session. Mr. Dominique Burgeon, FAO Representative in Bangladesh will be Special Guest, H. E. Mr. Dan W. Mozena, US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. Milko van Gool, Charge d'Affaires and Head of Cooperation, Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh will be Guests of Honour. Mr. Barun Dev Mitra, Secretary, Food Division, MoFDM will be the Chair person in the inaugural session.
 
During the Workshop, 14 research teams will present interim findings, outlining their methodology, interim outputs and initial interpretations of results. Another two research teams received grants in April 2012 will present their inception reports. Overall, the workshop will facilitate dialogue among food security and nutrition researchers, and between researchers and policy makers to enhance research-quality and to promote the policy relevance of the research outputs.
 
NFPCSP, through its Research Grant Scheme, funds and provides technical support to policy-relevant research that addresses knowledge requirements identified by the Food Planning and Monitoring Unit (FPMU) of the Ministry of Food and Disaster Management. The commissioned studies are expected to generate concrete policy options for improving food and nutrition security in Bangladesh.
 
The NFPCSP is jointly implemented by FPMU of the MoFDM and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, with the financial support of the European Union and USAID.
